Making It Happen

Mackenzie Kyle's book Making it Happen describes the project management process and it seems to be very practical, effective and well organized. I really enjoyed this book, although at first I was a little skeptical.  I enjoyed how the book was written in the narrative with characters I'm sure most people could relate to in one way or another.  The other thing that I really enjoyed about the book overall was the use of analogies throughout to help the reader understand what Martha or a co-worker was trying to describe.

It also seemed that many of the steps used in the project management process can also be used and related to teaching.  Having clear objectives is one things that's important to teachers.  Knowing what your objectives are can give a clear explanation to what you are trying to achieve while teaching.  Other steps in the management process that can relate to teaching and that are also important are planning, organizing and reviewing.  As teachers we start with clear objectives then need to plan and organize what and how we are going to teach the given lesson.  And to conclude after the lesson is to review how we as teachers did and how are students did and if they achieved the given objective.

Overall there are probably more steps involved in the project management process that also relate to teaching and any other field that requires any amount of planning.  The process that was portrayed in the book made sense and making people can use it to effectively plan out a process.

To the left is a voki I created for the character Jenny in the book.  Although she wasn't one of the main characters she was the one to suggest to Will to go talk to Martha who in the long run really helped him achieve and almost master the project management process.
