Needs Analysis
Introduction:
I’m a graduate student at Central Connecticut State University in the Educational Technology program. Through my many experiences in classrooms I have observed that students of a variety of elementary school aged students struggle with telling time.
Purpose:
The purpose for this needs analysis is to find out what parts about telling time students tend to struggle with the most. Along with why the concept of time is lost from year to year and to find a way to help make telling time more memorable for students to remember.
Data Collection:
Data will be collected in a few different ways. A pre-assessment will be given to the students to obtain what the classrooms overall background knowledge of time is. This will determine what critical parts are needed in the lesson. Other than the pre-assessment students will be required to sign out and sign in on a log when leaving the classroom the chart will be monitored to see which students can correctly identify the time they are leaving the classroom and the time they are returning. Other sources of data collection may be included.
Analysis:
After the data has been collected and a discussion of time has been completed will determine where the majority of the students need to begin in order to understand the concept of time. Depending on the analysis will determine which students need to start where in regards to the concept of time.
Solution:
To find a way to make learning time memorable to students who struggle with the concept. Using technology and real world situations will help students gain responsibility for their learning. The concept of time is important and creating a program that students can access and take control of their learning will be one way to help solve the problem of telling time.
